Lasa marble enlivens the completely renovated buildings of the church community centre

In the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bamberg (Bavaria), on St. Stephen's Square, adjacent to the historic St. Stephen's Church, is the Stephanshof, the Protestant-Lutheran centre of the parish of St. Stephen. In the course of the 2015 general renovation of the Stephanshof, the inner courtyard of the parish centre was also redesigned. The planners of the redevelopment, the Würzburg architects and graduate engineers Grellmann Kriebel Teichmann, chose Lasa Marmo natural split (cleaved faces) marble cobblestones for the redesign of the courtyard area. Apart from its special colour characteristics, Lasa Marble is also characterised by its resistance to frost and de-icing salt. Paving floors made of Lasa Marble are also an ideal and easy-care product for outdoor areas. These good characteristics also apply in particular to inner courtyards that can be driven over. Lasa Marmo supplied paving stones in the traditional format 8 x 8 x 8 cm for the Protestant community centre. An area of around 500 square meters was laid.

The parish of St. Stephan is the largest and oldest Bamberg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria. The Stephanshof, as a place of culture and meeting in the area of the church, should be designed open, friendly and barrier-free. At Stephanshof, not only the parish finds a new home, but also the parish office is housed in the buildings on Bamberg's Stephansplatz. Furthermore, concerts, theatre performances and cultural events of all kinds take place under its roof. The new courtyard is open, inviting and friendly. The entrance gate, the bright and translucent glass façade of the new foyer of the community centre and, in particular, the new square design of the inner courtyard with cobblestones made of Lasa marble implement the objectives of the planners architecturally. The luminosity of the courtyard is due not least to the special material properties of Lasa marble. On particularly sunny days, the light reflection due to the special crystal structure in the Lasa marble has such an effect that the square is best entered with sunglasses. The general renovation also meets the high standards of the old town of Bamberg, which has been protected by UNESCO since 1993. The use of Lasa's marble on the Stephansplatz enlivens the surrounding buildings and brings architectural-historical moments to life.
