Large floor slabs for the atrium of the university

In 2012, the well-known Dutch star architect Erick van Egeraat was commissioned by the Rotterdam city administration to adapt the former city library, built in the 1920s, as the new main building of the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR). Lasa Marmo supplied the finishing material for the main hall, the atrium and the large lecture halls (including the Erasmus Hall) as part of the restoration, renovation and redesign of the historic building with large-format floor slabs in the LASA VENATO VENA VERDE^® quality.

In the architectural concept for the new 5,500 square metre main building of the EUR, named after the Rotterdam Humanist, Philosopher and Theologian, Erasmus of Rotterdam, the building as well as the grace of the interior were restored to their original splendour. With generous decorations, coffered ceilings, natural stone elements, sculptures and stained glass, completely hidden behind plasterboard walls for decades, the extraordinary beauty of the building was made visible. The core of the building is the atrium with glass walls and glass lifts, clad in Laas marble floor slabs. It stretches from the ground floor to the new glass roof, which allows the building to be flooded with daylight, and the refined Laas marble is also particularly accentuated.

The Erasmus University Rotterdam is one of the most important and significant academic universities in the Netherlands. It has seven faculties and two institutes and concentrates on the subject areas: Health, economics, governance and culture. The EUR's economics and business administration faculties, the Erasmus School of Economics and the Rotterdam School of Management, are leaders in Europe and the world.
