BSV Headquarter
Laas marble enhances façade architecture at the new BSV headquarters in Schlanders
An architectural statement that unites entrepreneurship, design precision and sustainable material selection: the new headquarters of BSV GmbH on the eastern edge of Schlanders stands as a symbol of forward-looking construction with a distinctly regional character. The design was created by the Stephan Marx architectural practice (Arch. Marx/Ladurner), while the striking precast concrete elements were realised by PROGRESS AG – a collaboration that attracted international attention at Vienna’s renowned Turn On architecture festival.
Even from the busy main road, the elongated building immediately catches the eye with its striking geometry and high-quality finish. The shape of the plot – a sharply tapering triangle – played a decisive role in the dynamic layout of the building. Particularly impressive is the funnel-shaped recess at the eastern tip of the site. This not only forms the covered main entrance but also creates a bold architectural statement that welcomes both passers-by and visitors. The glass curtain wall, soaring over twelve metres high on the northern side, further enhances this effect and reflects the company’s core material philosophy: glass as a medium of transparency, lightness and precision.
The building, stretching approximately 120 metres in length, is functionally divided into two main areas: to the east, you will find production and storage facilities, while the west houses spacious office and exhibition spaces. These are seamlessly connected by a distinct, driveable element that ensures clear orientation and efficient internal workflows. Access is provided via a shared entrance from the west, with customer parking conveniently located on the eastern side.
Particular attention has been paid to the aesthetic quality of the façade surfaces. All concrete surfaces have been refined with Laas marble sand and chippings, then polished to perfection. The combination of white concrete and the distinctive sheen of the Laas marble lends the surface an elegant, almost terrazzo-like appearance. In conjunction with the expansive glass elements, a harmonious contrast is created, conveying both lightness and solidity in equal measure.
Ecological and functional criteria played a central role in the choice of materials. Opting for Laas marble as an aggregate is not only a reflection of regional affinity, but also a conscious commitment to the identity of South Tyrol. This light natural stone contributes not only its aesthetic appeal, but also its technical qualities to the concrete: hardness, durability and the unmistakable sparkle revealed by the polished aggregate.
The new BSV building is a striking example of how the interplay of form, function and material can create a structure that is far more than just a workplace – it is an architectural statement with real impact.
