Aeschenhaus
Façade in LASA BIANCO NUVOLATO® for office building in Basel Aeschenvorstadt
In 2018, CSA Real Estate Switzerland Commercial, an investment group of the Credit Suisse Investment Foundation, decided to redevelop its property at Aeschenvorstadt 72 in Basel. Together with the neighbouring building at Aeschenplatz 3, the office building designed by Bräuning & Dürig and constructed between 1963 and 1966 forms the entrance portal to Aeschenvorstadt and Basel's city centre. The renovation, which also included a complete renewal of the exterior façade in LASA BIANCO NUVOLATO®, achieved an increase in urban quality for this major Swiss city and made the exterior more attractive.
The Aeschenhaus is located on the axis from the SBB railway station to the north-east, on Aeschenplatz, one of Basel's most important business addresses. The renovation work, completed in 2020, was implemented on the basis of a renovation project by the Basel architectural firm Diener & Diener, which makes reference to the original 1966 building from both a material and design perspective. Seeing that the existing six-storey office building was one storey lower than its counterpart and had no covered outdoor area, the property at Aeschenvorstadt 72 was raised by an additional attic storey and supplemented with a new canopy in order to bring the two buildings into line with each other. Cantilevering far over the pavement, the new shelter above the ground floor protects those waiting at the bus stop on Aeschenplatz from sun and rain when getting on and off. In the course of the redesign, the office building was completely renovated inside and out. For the renovation of the original exterior façade, Lasa Marmo supplied a total of 770 m² of façade and lettering panels of the commercial variety LASA BIANCO NUVOLATO® in 4 cm thickness with sanded surfaces. The lettering panels with the inscription "AESCHENHAUS", which were manufactured using the CNC milling machines located in the Lasa Marmo factory, were installed in the area of the rafters of the new canopy. The laying work for the house at Aeschenvorstadt 72 was carried out by Staudt-Carrera AG, based in Zwingen near Basel.
