250 West 55th Street
An exquisite welcome provided by LASA BIANCO CLASSICO® for a New York Glass Palace
In 2013, after a five-year construction period, a 201-metre skyscraper was completed at 250 West 55th Street in New York Midtown, just a few steps away from Columbus Circle and Central Park. Designed by architects SOM (Skidmore, Owings and Merrill), the 40-storey building comprises 852,000 square feet of office space and retail outlets on the ground floor. The spacious and inviting entrance area with lobby is located on West 55th Street. For the exterior and interior of the main entrance, the planners decided to cover the otherwise fully glazed structure with large-format panels made of LASA BIANCO CLASSICO®. The façade panels in the exterior area are 6 cm thick; the wall panels for the spacious lobby are 3 cm thick. All surfaces are polished.
The exterior façade panels manufactured in the Lasa Marble Factory cover areas up to 13 metres high on the left and right of the entrance. At ground level towards 8th Avenue, another 20 metres of marble surfaces in LASA BIANCO CLASSICO® interrupt the glazing and form a seamless transition to the main entrance area. In addition to the walls of the 6.5-metre high reception area, the light-flooded atrium at the beginning of the entrance was also clad with fine LASA BIANCO CLASSICO® Lasa marble. The marble and glass installations in the inner lobby area are closed off by a water curtain at the end of the lobby atrium. The office building is a modern interpretation of Lever House, a classic among New York's Park Avenue skyscrapers, completed in 1952 and also designed by SOM. Due to the maximum use of daylight, air and views with its large, energy-efficient windows, column-free interiors, above-average infrastructure, this LEED® CS Gold certified building offers the highest level of modern office space. Lasa Marmo is proud to have contributed to the design of the impressive entrance area.
