1918"Marmor Lechner”, the town's pioneer
Josef Lechner established commercial contacts beyond the borders of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in Russia, England (Queen Victoria’s monument), and even in Abyssinia (funerary monument for the imperial family of Menelik, delivered in 1928 by Josef Lechner jr.). Numerous sculptures have seen the light in his workshop. World War I prevented some of Lechner’s customers to collect the works he had completed for them.
In addition to being a diligent and tireless worker, Lechner was a good father and a devout Catholic who helped the Church and the poor. After World War I, the former peasant, was the owner of the only financially stable company in Lasa’s marble industry, and one of the Vinschgau’s wealthiest inhabitants.
