800Marble slabs from the Carolingian Period
Lasa marble slabs from the Carolingian period were discovered in the walls, foundations and even within the floor of St. John’s Monastery in Müstair (Switzerland).
These building elements were common in Carolingian Churches. We currently have approximately 1.300 fragments of Lasa’s marble, collected in a room dedicated to the local cultural heritage.
St. John’s Monastery is one of the world’s best preserved Carolingian Monasteries and has been included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage in 1983.
