Large circles of Lasa’s population have supported the transport of marble on the inclined plane for years. With the founding of the association "Friends of the inclined plane" in May 2007, the debate on the transportation of marble acquired political and social tones. Over 1100 signatures have been collected to save the old industrial structure, an important number in an age of growing environmental awareness. In July 2007, shareholders of the "Tiroler Marmorwerke" sold all their shares to engineer Burkhard Pohl from Castelbello. The name "Tiroler Marmorwerke GmbH", used so far, was replaced by" Göflaner Marmor GmbH".
