Assurances made to the Americans at the time of the offer that only pure white material would be supplied had not been fully respected. The Americans had to reject the products, even with minimal chromatic inclusions. Furthermore, the company had focused all its interests on this assignment, neglecting all other distribution possibilities such as the marketing of lower-grade material.
Unexpected investments were therefore needed. 594 people were employed in 1951 and had to work in three shifts to honor the supply contracts. In addition Lasa Marmo had promised very high commissions to the contract’s mediators. This brought financial difficulties and dangerous liquidity situations.
