University Luigi Bocconi
LASA BIANCO NUVOLATO® for the award-winning new Aula Magna at Milan's Elite University
In 2006 and 2007 Lasa Marmo equipped the newly built Aula Magna in the new university building complex as well as the foyer of the elite university, Luigi Bocconi with floor and wall panels and steps of the LASA BIANCO NUVOLATO® grade. The floors of the bathrooms located in the foyer were also clad with the refined finishing material of Lasa marble. The surfaces for the floor slabs and treads were sanded, and the surfaces in the bathrooms have a polished finish.
The Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi (translated "Luigi Bocconi University of Economics") is a private business university founded in Milan in 1902. It offers English and Italian language courses in economics and law. The new university building, which was inaugurated in 2008 and covers an area of more than 68,000 square metres, houses aside from the workplace for 1,240 university employees, but also the publicly accessible Aula Magna with seats for almost 1,000 spectators, five conference rooms and a spectacular two-storey foyer, which has been extensively equipped with floor slabs (90 x 90 cm format) and treads made of refined Lasa marble by Lasa Marmo.
According to the plans of the Irish architects, Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara of Grafton Architects from Dublin, a total of 30,000 square metres of refined finishing material were laid with additional natural stones. The construction project was submitted to the architectural competition of the World Architecture Festival (WAF) in Barcelona. Shortly before the inauguration ceremony of the Aula Magna on 6 November 2008, the project received the "World Building of the Year" award in the "Learning" category from 722 candidates and 63 countries over the previous 1 ½ years.
