The different types of Lasa Marble

Lasa marble comes in a variety of types according to its appearance, markings and colour. We produce ten different marbles at Laas (Lasa) which are divided into two categories - Lasa Bianco (White Lasa Marble) and Lasa Venato (Veined Lasa Marble).

The calcium carbonate component values contained in the pure white Lasa marble range between 96.4 and 98.6%, an extraordinary density, which determines the hardness, strength and purity of marble. Varieties of white marble ennobled by different inclusions can also be found in our quarries. Certain varieties of Lasa marble include bands of quartz and mica, large diamond shaped calcite crystals, traces of sulfur, magnesium, strontium, titanium, silicon, gold, silver and platinum; extremely small amounts of uranium and thorium.

Lasa Arabescato is especially liked for its light blue shadings and blue-grey veins while Lasa Cevedale, with its delicate blue shadows, contains traces of tourmaline and graphite which add a little blue/grey colour to the stone as well as small traces of iron oxide which give it red and yellow under-tones, a characteristic very rarely found in such a natural mineral product.
